James Dewey

Vice President of Development

James is the Vice President of Development for Hughes Commercial Properties. He oversees all retail real estate development.

Before joining Hughes in mid 2015, James spent nearly ten years with The Fresh Market specialty grocery chain, first as Real Estate Manager spearheading the company’s growth into the Northeast and later as Director of Real Estate overseeing the company’s continued expansion in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast United States.

Prior to working with The Fresh Market, James practiced real estate and corporate law in the Greensboro, North Carolina office of Smith Moore Leatherwood where he assisted clients with all aspects of structuring and closing commercial real estate transactions.

James graduated from Wake Forest University in 1995, magna cum laude, with degrees in Economics and History. He received his law degree with high honors from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 2002, where he was a member of the North Carolina Law Review.

Additionally, James spent four years prior to returning to law school as a business process consultant with Accenture, a global consulting firm.

James works out of our Greensboro, North Carolina office, and is married with four children.
